Epsom

Epsom is a famous market town in Surrey, England. It is in 13.7 miles south-west of London, between Ashtead and Ewell. The city includes chalk downland and the upper Thanet Formation. Epsom Downs Racecourse holds the Derby. The famous Epsom salt was named after the discovery in Epsom town. Epsom salt is extracted from mineral waters there.

 

Until about 1620 Epsom was a small rural community. The discovery of water rich in Epsom Salts, led to fast development as people started to come to take the waters. It also led to the development of a spa town.
